ASR Sunday Brief #12
What Shopify operators were talking about this week

From the founder:
That's the increase in orders coming through AI shopping platforms - ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini - between January 2025 and January 2026. Straight from Shopify's own data.
If you're building for Shopify right now, this is the single most important number in the ecosystem. And it quietly explains a lot of what's shown up in our intent data over the last few months - the AEO/GEO vocabulary shift we tracked in issue #6, the AI-at-the-catalog-layer conversations in issue #8, the tool-naming shift in issue #9.
Pattern of the week is what operators are doing about it right now.

Breakout apps of the week
1. Marklo | AI-native marketing operating system This category of apps is rebuilding the growth stack around an AI planner that decides where budget goes across channels — not another dashboard sitting on top of Meta and Google, but the layer that actually makes the daily allocation calls. Timely fit for the "audit before you add" mode the network is in this month.
2. ShopDeck | Meta profitability infrastructure for DTC This category of apps builds a purpose-designed layer on top of Meta specifically to make ROAS predictable rather than volatile — connecting content, ad performance, and unit economics. Especially interesting for the $50K–$500K/mo band where every underperforming campaign hits the P&L.
3. TestParty | Accessibility testing built into your build workflow This category of apps automates ADA and WCAG compliance checks the way test frameworks catch broken code — with actionable diffs and CI/CD integration, not just a red/green audit score. Increasingly important as ADA lawsuits against Shopify brands keep climbing.
Pattern of the week

Something intense is showing up in the intent data this week.
Seven brand operators named apps they're actively replacing. Together they named 31 apps. That's more than four per operator on average — not tuning, not one strategic swap, wholesale stack rebuilds.
One operator listed 9 apps at once. Another 7. Another 6. Three separate operators actively evaluating replacements, not researching. All three approaching Q4 with a leaner stack than they entered Q3 with.
Why it matters: operators aren't switching individual apps anymore. They're rebuilding entire stacks in one buying cycle — triggered by platform changes (Scripts, Mantle), pricing shifts, and the realization that half of what they run no longer talks to the other half. If you're an app team selling into this network right now, know that whoever you win probably won't be the customer who only owns one app of yours. And if you're a brand operator, the message underneath the noise is consistent: the stack isn't getting bigger. It's getting rebuilt.
New app reviews
Our brand network frequently writes reviews for apps they use. These reviews are visible from all Shopify app accounts under the App reviews tab.
1. AfterSell Post Purchase Upsell
Reviewer: Owner, Fashion & Apparel
Operator liked | Didn't like |
|---|---|
Post-checkout offers didn't touch checkout conversion — extra revenue on top | Reporting is basic; hard to know how much revenue is truly incremental |
Easy funnels — different offers based on cart contents, one-click to accept | Template designs feel outdated, on-brand customization takes work |
AOV up by a few percent in the first month with no developer needed | AI funnel isn't customizable — no way to prevent the same product showing up |
The AI post-purchase flow works best of any of the funnel types |
2. Back in Stock: Restock Alerts
Reviewer: Owner, Fashion & Apparel
Operator liked | Didn't like |
|---|---|
Easy to implement, captures demand for sold-out products cleanly | Report emails don't break down new signups by day — no clear chronological view |
Recovers potential lost revenue with automated notifications | Hard to see daily signup trends or demand spikes around specific drops |
Simple customer signup, integrates cleanly into product pages | Signup list accumulates without structured date-based reporting |
3. inkFrog for eBay
Reviewer: Owner, Sports & Recreation
Operator liked | Didn't like |
|---|---|
Connects Shopify and eBay listings + inventory, updated regularly | Sync issues caused overselling — lost eBay Top Rated Seller status because inventory didn't update |
Branded eBay listing templates included | No way to add markups on select items — pricing is account-wide |
Good value at a low monthly price |
