Quiet observation from this week's data. When we started tracking intent submissions back in the spring, operators asking about AI were mostly asking for help writing things faster. This week they're asking for help fixing their product catalog. Same technology. Completely different job. More below.

Pattern of the week

AI just kept moving in the intent data.

Four operators this week named AI specifically for their product catalog - ad creative for individual SKUs, product-level suggestions, product data structured for AI search, catalog-level personalization. Not email content. Not customer service. Not internal tooling. The product itself.

For context on the arc: six months ago the AI conversation in our network was about writing copy faster. Three months ago it was AI discovery (AEO, GEO). Last month it was internal ops. This week it moved another step - down into the product layer.

If you're building AI into your catalog work right now - not into your marketing - you're on the newest wave. It's smaller than the previous ones. That's usually a good sign.

A page from the 1902 Sears Roebuck catalog. By 1908, Sears was running 1,162 pages of cross-referenced products - every SKU with dimensions, weight, price, and category tags. That was the algorithm. It was also the sales team, the recommendation engine, and the SEO. The operators asking for AI in their catalog this week are trying to do what Sears did 120 years ago - just faster, in a world where the discovery layer keeps rewriting itself.
